Opening Muses

My intention in starting this blog is to track the promise I made to my seminar and TRA group, which is to put into existence my cycling and exercise programme.  The larger intention is to get fit, get into shape and do an imperial century ride around Singapore by end September 2008.  Also, my aim is to bring my weight down from 87 kg now to 70 kg by the end of 2008.

The largest intention is to make a difference to my family, colleagues and community by creating the possibility of bike commuting in Singapore.  If we can do that, we would cut down on emissions, get fit, and manage traffic congestion.  And it starts with me. Right now.

Well, I had a great weekend.  Yesterday, I rode to my TRA class in Park Mall and then to Funan Centre.  It was a short ride - about 17 km.  The weather was nice.  The light was bright and it wasn't overly hot. There was a smell of burning incense in the air throughout.  It brought to my mind that it is the lunar 7th month and lots of incense is being burnt all around Singapore.  There is a difference between the smell of burning incense and the smell of the haze from Indonesia.  The smell of burning incense is sharper whereas the smell of haze is a "lower" note. Somewhat "wetter", to me.

Anyway, today was a longish ride with Winnie round the Park Connector. We went around East Coast to Changi Point to Loyang, Tampines, Sun Plaza and Bedok Reservoir.  I broke out my Timex HRM.

The ride took 3 hours 07 minutes and.  It was satisfying to see the record from the HRM. Itwas 2 hours 50 mins in the zone and average HR was 125 and peak HR was 161. 2397 calories burned.  I am creating that I would be riding 3 times into the office this week.
